How It Works

We pride ourselves in being able to offer time and personal touches, serving every family with care, compassion and concern. We are dedicated to providing you with the exact type of service you like, whether it be a small private family service at home, a chapel service, church service or a service held at a place meaningful to you.
1.

The decision on whether to embalm is a personal choice; some people hold strong beliefs about embalming and whether this is necessary. As professional funeral directors it is important that we ensure you are aware of possible consequences of any choice you make.

2.

We at Elliotts North Shore pride ourselves on Natural Body Care through the cooling of the body and keeping it in a controlled environment until the day of the funeral and only embalm if it is necessary or requested by the family. Some of the ways in which we can be a lot kinder to the planet is through the choice in casket, embalming (if any), deciding between burial or cremation or even the type of floral tributes used.

3.

As for the caskets, we offer a selection of environmentally friendly options, made from recycled rimu and untreated radiate pine, both of which come from a renewable resource. We also offer willow and wool caskets, along with plywood caskets coated with natural oil.

Ultimately, we believe that a death does not need to cost the Earth.

Embalming Information

Embalming is the practice of using formaldehyde to prevent the natural organic process of decomposition, which allows for the family to grieve in their own time, without time constraints, while their loved one looks natural and at peace.
  • If embalming is not preferred, the body will be kept in a cool room until the day of the funeral.
  • In this case, it is recommended for any viewing and visitation of the deceased to be completed soon after the death, as later stages may cause for an unpleasant experience for family and friends.
  • We believe that a death does not need to cost the Earth.
